Announcements:

Final Exam Answer Key is posted here and below.  The exams are graded and I will post grades in Semester Book today (after lunch for sure).  There will be a curve applied and I will e-mail you with details after I decide exactly what it will be.  I am waiting to get the make-up finals graded before I make that decision.  A few students complained to me that that some of the equilibrium questions using pressures on the exam were unfair because we never covered them in class. Actually, I stated and STRESSED several times that pressure is conceptually the same as concentration and molarity (also see page 10 in equilibrium). When you see pressure just use it like molarity to work out an equilibrium problem.

Final Exam:  Wednesday December 13 at 7:30 AM in Bo Campbell Auditorium, Cox Student Center (the big 1000 seat auditorium).  2 hour comprehensive final exam. Bring a Scantron (full page, green style).  Please carefully fill out your name and social security number on the Scantron before you arrive.  You can use a 3 inch by 5 inch card/paper with any information on it you want (formulas, etc).  You can use both sides. Do NOT overly rely on this to replace studying for the final exam. Students in the past that have done this have fared poorly on the final.  Also bring several pencils and a calculator that you know how to use.

Final Exam Review Sessions:
Monday, Dec 11:  2:00 to 3:30 PM in Williams 201
Tuesday, Dec 12:  2:00 to 3:30 PM in Williams 201

Make-up Final Exam:
You MUST have permission from your Dean to take the Make-up Final. It is already past the deadline to sign up for this.
Session I -  Mon., Dec. 11   12:30-2:30 PM   Room:  202 Williams
Session II - Thurs., Dec. 14   10:00 AM - NOON   Room:  202 Williams

Homework # 9&10 – Redox/Electrochem – Answer Key is posted here and below.

Answer Key for Exam 3A      Answer Key for Exam 3B
The class average on Exam # 3 was 81% (very good)!

Homework # 7&8 – Acids & Bases (2) – Answer Key is posted here and below.

Homework # 6 – Acids & Bases (1) – Answer Key  is posted here and below.

Exam # 2 – Answer keys for Exams 2A (white) and 2B (yellow) are posted below.
Exams are graded and those with the “put out in public racks boxes checked” have been put in the grading rack outside my office.  I have also posted grades to Semester Book.  Printed Answer keys will be available in class on Tuesday, Nov 7.

Answer Key for Exam 2A      Answer Key for Exam 2B
The class average on Exam # 2 was only a 66.5%. At the current time I have no plans to curve this as I believe it was a fair exam and that the poor student performance was due to lack of studying.  I will discuss this more in class on Tuesday, Nov 7. Due to the poor performance I took extra time to show the solutions on the answer keys for most of the multiple choice questions in enough detail that you should understand how it should be done. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU CAREFULLY REVIEW THE EXAM AND UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU GOT WRONG AND WHY!!

Homework # 5 – Equilibrium (2) – Answer Key is posted here and below.

Homework # 4 – Equilibrium (1) - Answer Key is posted here and below.

You can download the color PDF file with all the notes and the last two years of homework assignments and exams (with answer keys) below under “Lecture Notes”.
Black & white copies of the lecture notes will be available the first week of classes before and after class in the lobby of Choppin Hall. They are being sold by the Chemistry Graduate Student Council for $25. Profits will be used by the CGSC for chemistry events.  Make your checks payable to “Chemistry Graduate Student Council”.  The note packet will also be available for sale in Prof. Stanley’s office (614 Choppin Hall).
I strongly recommend that you use a hard copy of the lecture notes during class and annotate them with additional explanations and comments I make when discussing each page of notes on the overheads.
