Area of Interest

Our research is centered on the development of new bioanalytical chemistry techniques and their application to address research problems at the frontiers of biochemistry and biomedicine.  Our adventures in pursuit of new bioanalytical measurement methods lead us in exciting and often unexpected scientific directions.  One current research interest is the development of separation and detection methods for studying protein aggregation related to diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease, Huntington’s Disease and Parkinson’s disease.  Another current project focuses on the development and application of capillary electrophoretic assays for studying enzyme inhibition.  We have also developed a fluorescence-based instrument for performing quantitative studies of flow dynamics in capillaries and microchips.  We are using this technique to perform fundamental studies of electroosmotic flow dynamics during typical analytical applications of microfluidic devices.
