Problems

All Suggested Problems come from the textbook for this course, LSU customized edition of Chemistry, The Central Science, 10th ed., Brown,
SUGGESTED
PROBLEMS will NOT be collected or graded. These problems are
usually similar to your homework problems and assigned to help you work the
homework problems and to study for the exams. Generally the answers to the Suggested
Problems (Red numbered
problems) can be found in the back of the textbook.
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS will be viewed and turned in using an
internet web site called WebAssign. This homework system has the
advantage that it is graded immediately upon submission, showing you which
problems are correct and which are incorrect. You have the opportunity to
rework the problems you got incorrect and resubmit your answers. Only the
last submission grade will be recorded. You can submit problems individually (some
early and some later). There is a
deadline and a maximum number of submissions possible per problem.
HINTS: Minimize the time on a computer by printing
out the homework assignment when first assigned. Each student will have a slightly different
set of problems, so print your assignment.
After we complete a lecture, work the problems that correlate to the lecture
material covered so far. Log in and
submit your answers to each question individually. You can also save your work on-line and
submit later.
Don’t wait until the last minute to work
the problems or submit all your answers!
After the due date & time, you can log back in and see the correct
answers. This is helpful in studying for
exams.
Seek help from Dr. Allen, tutors in the Biology/Chemistry Tutor Room, or even
your friends.
If you need or want additional problems, see the Suggested Problems assigned below.
HOW TO USE WebAssign: www.webassign.net/student.html
1. AFTER I have uploaded the roster to
WebAssign, you can log onto WebAssign.
2. You have a grace
period for about 2 weeks to use the website.
After that time period, you must enter an access code. You can
purchase the access code at the WebAssign internet site or you may purchase the access code at the bookstores.
If another class also uses WebAssign, you have to purchase a separate access
code for each course.
3. Each assignment
lists the due date & time and maximum number of submissions allowed. At the exact deadline, WebAssign closes and
will not accept anymore answer, even if you are still entering answers or had
answers saved, but not submitted.
4. Generally, I do NOT
give deadline extensions unless you have an excused absence.
