  • Tutoring: Biology and Chemistry Tutorial Center
    • Monday - Friday: 11:30AM - 4:30PM in 113 EB Doran Bldg.
(across street from LSU Dairy Store)
    • phone: 578-7744
    • sponsored by Center for Academic Success
    • NEW: Free on-line tutoring, nearly 24/7. Details are....
      • costs: LSU Center for Academic Success and Independent and Distance Learning paid for a zillion minutes. Each access bills minutes to the LSU debit card. You should use as many minutes as, responsibily, you need.
      • access: Through your PAWS account/Student Services/Smarthinking.com. Always access through your PAWS account.
      • initialization: Is your computer compatible? Use "Need more practice with White Board" (at bottom of home page). Pop-ups must be enabled. Practice with the whiteboard for 2 minutes.
      • modes of service: (a) "Connect with an e-instructor now". This is live, one-on-one session via whiteboard. (b) "submit a question". Use whiteboard to submit a question, expect reply within 24 hrs. On the basis of a 90-minute training session, these two modes seem best for Chem1201, just before the final.
      • privacy: tutor sessions are archived and available to LSU administrators, so be professional.
      • coverage: chemistry, biology, math, English, etc. LSU bought all services. Enjoy.
      • when? service starts Dec 6 and will continue for at least a 3 month evaluation period. So, evaluate.
      • warning: there is an access mode called "schedule a session". Bad things could happen to your account if you schedule a session, and miss. So, save this mode until you are experienced with Smarthinking.com
      • extra: MarvinSketch (a Java applet). The Smarthinking.com whiteboard has poor chemical structure drawing. MarvinSketch might be a good substitute for cut/paste into whiteboard. I'd like your comments. BTW: Tigerware gives you access to a professional ChemDraw program, but that has a big learning curve.

Chapter 11-13 Homework: WebAssign DUE: Sunday, Dec 3 , 8:00PM (assignment posted Wednesday, Nov 29)
Hints: Q3.
HOOH and HSSH are not flat.
Q14. The programming has a significant digits mistake. To get the "correct" answer, enter your answer to 0.1 Celsius. For example, round -123.4567 Celsius to -123.4 Celsius.
Q15. Hint 1. Calculated molarity of NaCl. Hint 2. Double to get number of particles contributing to osmotic pressure.
OFFICE HOURS: Saturday, 3-5PM at CC's Coffee House, 4410 Highland Road (near LSU south gates). I'm 95% sure I'll be there, pending no health problems .
