Many faculty
members have inquired about obtaining a copy of Adobe Acrobat Professional 8. The Chemistry Department has purchased a copy of the installation media
and licenses are now available for purchase.
Acrobat
Professional 8 is NOT freeware and is NOT covered by a 'campus site license'.
Faculty and staff may purchase Acrobat under an agreement that
gives "reduced rates", but you must buy a license for
$40.11.
You may provide
Bob Zinn with an account number and authorize charges of $40.11 to
that account. He will obtain the license and product key for you
and lend you a copy of the CD so that you can install the product.
If you later want to upgrade to a newer version, there will be
additional costs.
If you buy
just a license, you do not get a the media. Media may be borrowed
from Bob Zinn or bought separately.
NOTE: Adobe Acrobat READER is freeware and can be downloaded and
installed for free, from www.adobe.com

Other solutions
for creating pdf files:
1) Download
the free 30 day trial copy of Adobe 8 pro. from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/tryout.html
2) Sign up
for the 'create pdf files on line' service from Adobe. The first 5 PDF's are free. See http://createpdf.adobe.com/
3) Print your
document as post-script to a file using a pure postscript
printer driver and use some open-source software to convert from
postscript to pdf. You can download and install RedMon,
Ghostscript for Windows, and GSview, in that order, and use GSview
to view and convert files between several formats, including from
Postscript to a pdf.
